A freelance editor and writer based in Canada’s first English colony—Cupids, Newfoundland, settled 1610—I contribute concepts, copy and/or editorial services to a wide range of projects and for a broad client base.

I moved to Newfoundland and Labrador in the 1990s and since then have developed a fondness for, and experience with, projects that explore and present aspects of this province’s natural/cultural heritage and history. These projects have ranged from museum exhibits, art catalogues, and non-fiction books to educational publications, government reports, print promotions, advocacy materials, corporate communications materials, and web sites. The scope of my work can be as focused as copy-editing or include everything from writing content to serving as managing editor.

I’m honoured that my work overseeing the creation of Where’s the Catch: The Fish We Harvest from the NW Atlantic (by Wade Kearley, Boulder Publications) won Editors Canada’s Tom Fairley Award for Editorial Excellence in 2012. Four additional non-fiction books I’ve edited have won provincial or regional awards. I was also pleased to co-author and edit Birds of Newfoundland with Ian Warkentin (published 2010).

I take special delight in helping clients make the words and graphics/imagery of their messages work together to greatest effect. Do you have a project you’d like to discuss? Give me a call!
