David Swick

David Swick teaches courses on journalism ethics and writing at the University of King's College School of Journalism. He was a journalist for more than 20 years before moving into teaching.

3d. Stress management and ergonomics for editors

Traci Williams

Sunday, 9:15 am – 10:15 am

Williams

Although largely satisfying, editing can have its stressful moments with tight deadlines, difficult clients, and unwieldy texts. Long hours can also result in lower back pain, sore shoulders and neck, strained wrists, and even headache. In this interactive, fun workshop, we will look at ergonomics and stress management for editors in order to improve productivity, focus, and general well-being.

In her 25th year as an editor and translator, and now a certified yoga teacher, Traci Williams credits yoga and meditation for keeping her sane.

3e. Clear communication by design

Michelle Boulton

Sunday 10:30 am – 11:30 am

Boulton

Writers and editors are typically concerned with words, not document design. Yet, as we learn more about the way readers perceive and respond to the visual elements of a document, it becomes increasingly important for wordsmiths to develop a basic understanding of document design and how they can influence that design. I will briefly touch on some basic elements of document design: typography, content and structure, arrangement on the page, legibility, illustrations, and graphics.

Michelle Boulton leads a team of talented creative communication professionals (writers, editors, translators and designers) who produce everything from magazines to books, training manuals, and reports.

Un appel est lancé à tous les réviseurs d’expérience! La session d'échanges prendra la forme d’une discussion libre qui facilitera le partage d’information.
